Offer From "Grupo Vidanta" - Fake!
June 3, 2015
A new twist! Just when we thought we had seen it all. Consider the following from an Aimfair member who had this to say:I was called today by a gentlemen who identified himself as an employee of Vidanta who wanted to secure my 10 unused weeks to use for a travel agency that had 350 persons waiting to rent them. Each of my GL Master Suite weeks would be worth 8 Sea Garden studios.Definitely looks convincing. Look at the following documentation:
It initially sounded legitimate because the caller had my name, address, telephone, e-mail, unit size, maintenance fee cost and knew how many weeks I had used, and how many were unused, in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The deal was that if I paid my maintenance fee of $1,750 x 10 units = $17,500, each of the 10 weeks would be rented out x 8 units @ $1,100 per unit, or $88,000. Contracts would be signed with guarantees.
Thus, for $17,500 in fees WIRED to a third party, I would ultimately receive $88,000 in rental fees, wired back to me by the third party.
Boy, I would love for this to be real but, as is always the case, if it's too good to be true . . . .
Please let me know. I do have a name and telephone number for the caller.
All those logos. Wouldn't you think that letterhead was for real?
Its amazing! The people calling us would think that we would fall for such a deal without so much as calling Grupo Vidanta to verify the validity of the offer. Also, one quick read of the documents would see the inconisistencies. No, its just another way to ask for money.
