Approved Property Management
May 22, 2012
Don emailed us today and asked whether or not we have heard of Approved Property Management. As it turns out, we have. Earlier this year, we came across the name but did not investigate because the inquiry was only casual. At the time, the information about the company was questionable. We did not have contracts or a transaction to describe and the party asking the question passed on the opportunity, so we moved on.
Recently, Don received a cold call from a representative of this company. Of course, the company had a buyer for Don's timeshare.
As this was the second inquiry about this company, we looked a little deeper. Here is what we found:
- A discussion on TUG started on May 9, 2012 about Approved Property Management
- "We are in the process of selling our timeshare with Approved Property Management" - www.justanswer.com - posted on or about May 22, 2012.
Note: The key component to this scam is the Seller is required to pay money into an escrow company for fees. Bellwether Capital Group is the name of the escrow company. This name is similar to a Bellwether Capital Group, Inc. in Milwaukee, WI and a Bell Whether Capital Group in Indianapolis, OH. It is very common for scam companies to take the name of legitimate enterprises to attempt to gain trust. Also, normal, legitimate transactions make adjustments for fees charged to the Seller's account in escrow. Up front payments required of the Seller outside of a legitimate escrow are very suspicious and dangerous. They should not be paid under any circumstances.
Here are two photos taken from Google Earth Street View of the office address given by the company:
Note: The Google Earth images were taken in March, 2012 and the building was for sale. It probably still is.
We do not believe Approved Property Management offers truthful information and should be avoided.
